Burgess Butterfly fish

2009/06/12 23:37
I bought the burgess butterfly (Chaetodon burgessi) in my tank. I have a declivis and mitratus already. I should put him to adaptation box to protect their attack.

This fish is from Indonesia and also lives in deep sea like declivis and mitratus. They are known for reef safe but actually Soft,LPS safe. They pick the SPS's polyp and this burgess also follows them. My burgess is not big and smaller than other butterflies. (2.5 inches 6~7cm)

This picture is from Marinecenter. If you look at this carefully, You know My fish's body is more yellow than this picture (I do not know why, I will ask to RC expert about this http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showt ··· 15180625 )  From this thread, I found there is a local variance between burgess. My B is from Indonesia and Indonesian Burgess has yellow body. I like mine. but I prefer hawaiian B. So I will get another one from Hawaii. LOL

Burgess Butterfly

But I do not know my other butterflies except this as their friends or not. They show several aggressive motions to him like this.

But I want them to get along...

    Hi,

how is this fish doing now? Are the butterflyfish getting along? And don't they pick your corals?

    Nice blog!

    Greetings.

  5. Thanks Laurens

Unfortunately I lost 2 butterflies, Burgess and Mitratus because of internal parasite. They were get along and Mitratus is most aggressive among 3 butterflies thogh its size was smaller than Declivis.

I will try them again soon.

    Thanks.

That's really unfortunate, but these things happen. My mitratus has only just recovered from some serious ich infection.

Aqua REI Reef tank layout photo contest

2009/06/04 06:21
Aqua Rei is LFS in Japan. and There is The first photo contest about reef tank layout. And they are winners~!!
http://aqua-rei.com/photo.html
Very beautiful and layout is so nice. Among the 68 tanks, 10 tanks are selected.

I love conceptual layout and Some Tanks are very well known to me (and you) and seen before, but I am happy to see the their new scene.

I will introduce one of great japanese tank, Mr. Anagonbe's tank. so soon.
Aqua Rei

By now you may have noticed that the May edition of ReefKeeping magazine is overdue. In conjunction with major changes in the software that runs ReefCentral, we're overhauling the software that bring you ReefKeeping every month. Unfortunately that work required that we put a few things on hold; including the May edition. We hope to have everything in place within a few weeks and expect to be online for the June edition.

Thanks for your patience. We think that the changes will be worth the wait.
