DIY food case for Longnose & Copperband butterfly

새로운 먹이를 시험하기 위해서 무작정 먹이붙임이 까다롭다는 이 두녀석을 구입하였습니다.

롱노우즈와 카퍼밴드나비입니다. 롱노우즈가 카퍼밴드보다 건조먹이를 훨씬 잘 먹는다고는 하지만 쉽지 않은 종인것 같습니다. 저번에도 실패를 했었는데요 무엇보다 퍼플탱이 가만히 두질 않았기 때문에 먹이붙임에 실패한 것으로 보입니다.어찌 되었건 간에 새로운 먹이에 대한 기대가 많았지만 실제로는 2마리 모두 반응을 보이지 않았습니다. 그래서 먹이붙임은 포기하고 그냥 실컷 죽을 때까지 보자..하다가 혹시나 싶어 냉동 브라인쉬림프와 마이시스를 줘보았는데 2마리 모두 입질을 하면서 먹는 것이었습니다. 냉동만 가지고 유지는 어려울 것 같아서 RC의 글을 여기저기 찾아보니 blood worm도 리스트에 있더군요. 그래서 히카리 2제품을 구입하게 된 것입니다.

이것 역시 2마리 모두 먹는 것을 보고 나도 혹시 이녀석들을 키울 수 있지 않을까 하는 생각을 하게 되었습니다. 물론 현재 플레이크 혹은 펠렛류의 먹이는 관심조차 보이지 않고 있습니다만 냉동과 건조 쉬림프들을 적절히 주면 그래도 생각보다 오래 키울 수 있곘다는 생각이 들더군요. 그러나 문제는 역시 검역통에서 나와 메인수조로 들어갔을 때 crosshatch trigger및 다른 고기들과 먹이경쟁이 될 것인가 하는점 이었습니다. 둘 다 빠르게 먹이를 먹기보다는 조준을 해서 먹이를 공략하는 것처럼 보이더군요. 이런상황에서 도저히 메인수조의 녀석들과의 경쟁에서 살아남을 수가 없을것이라 판단했습니다.

그 때부터 며칠동안의 고민이 시작되었습니다. 정말 마트에 가서 물건을 살때도 일을 할때도 어떤식으로 이녀석들이 맘껏 먹이를 먹을 수 있는가에 대해서 고민했습니다. 카퍼밴드의 경우 wild환경에서 worm류를 주로 먹이로 섭취하고 여기에서 oil을 취하기 때문에 지속적으로 공급해 줄 수 있는 뭔가가 필요했습니다.

다른녀석들에 비해 입이 길다는 점을 이용해서 어떤 통안에 구멍을 뚫고 그곳에 넣어야 할 것 같았습니다. 고려해야 할 사항은.

1. 다른 고기들이 눈으로 먹이를 확인하여 몰리지 않도록 할 것
2. 적절하게 무게감이 있어서 쉽게 돌아다니지 않도록 할 것
3. 너무 깊지 않아야 하고 구멍도 적절하게 뚫어야 함

그래서 선택한 것이 이것입니다. 3/4인치 배관재료와 흔히 살 수 있는 음료수 병뚜껑을 이용하였습니다.

이렇게 구멍을 뚫어두고 이곳에 먹이를 넣습니다. 이번에 넣을 먹이는 다음과 같습니다.

사진에서 녹이고 있는 것은 냉동 브라인 쉬림프 성체인데요. 마이시스와 반반 하거나 번갈아주면 될 것 같습니다.
가장 오른쪽에 있는 가루같은 것은 펠렛사료를 가루로 만든 것입니다. 이것을 냉동사료와 섞어서 조금이나마 맛에 길들여져 나중에 먹이붙임에 도움이 되지 않을까 싶어 넣어주고 있습니다.

구멍은 일단 6미리 드릴을 사용하여 구멍을 뚫었습니다. 가장 밑에서부터 blood worm->냉동브라인쉬림프+펠렛사료가루->건조 브라인쉬림프 순으로 넣어주었습니다. 그리고 나서 뚜껑을 닫으면 끝입니다.

나사선이 다르기 때문에 완전히 맞물려 잠기지는 않지만 웬만한 충격에도 괜찮아 보입니다.

만들어 넣어보고 동영상을 찍어보았습니다. 화면이 깨끗하지 않고 적응통이 깨끗하지 않습니다만 참고하시라고 올려봅니다.크로스해치 이녀석 먹고 싶어서 난리났네요... :)

Lumen Bright Again

In December 2008, I tried to use Lumen Brigth for Radium 250w. But I was not satisfied with this bulb and changed to ATI Powermodule

I am always dreaming Radium 400w, and Dreams Come True. I will use Radium ,XM20, and Aqua connect 250w(summer season) and 400w.

Coral Frag Caddy

사실 이 제품은 우리나라의 현실과는 조금 거리가 있는 것이라서 소개를 할까 망설였습니다만 나중에 활성화 되리란 기대를 안고 소개합니다.

Coral Frag Caddy란 제품인데요. 일반적으로 Frag SWAP같은 행사를 할 떄 작은 프랙들을 봉지에 각각 담아 가지고 오게 되는데 부피가 커지고 물용량이 많아지게 됩니다. 이런 불편을 해소하고자 이렇게 프랙을 넣을 수 있는 컨테이너가 제품으로 출시되었습니다. 보시는 아크릴에 프랙들을 꽂아두고 아크릴을 차곡차곡 쌓아서 넣어두면 됩니다. 가격은 사진의 것이 42$정도 하는군요..

앞으로 우리나라에서도 이 물건을 쓸 수 있기를 기대해 봅니다.

It is quite popular to go to reef shows and browse the livestock that is on display specifically with corals. Most people use several bags or might even use Rubbermaid type containers to put their livestock in as they race home ready to put it in their quarantine tank. But the Coral Frag caddy takes a different approach and allows you to put more then one frag in a “coral bucket”. The best part of all this is there are multiple trays in the bucket which allow you to put a bunch of corals including different sized ones as all the holes are not the same diameter. And yes the trays all fit on top of each other inside the bucket. The Coral Frag Caddy w/ 4 acrylic frag trays retails for only $42.18.

재밌는 물건이 하나 있어서 소개를 하고자 합니다.

보통 이끼를 제거할때 손으로 하거나 핀셋등을 활용하는데 이럴 경우 불편한 점도 있고 뜯긴 이끼가 어항에 날리기도 합니다. 이런 불편함을 해소하고자 아쿠아 메딕에서 사진과 같은 제품을 내 놓았습니다.

자세히 보면 이끼를 잘 잡을 수 있도록 자잘한 홈이 파여져 있으며 손잡이 쪽으로 작은 구멍이 있는 것을 볼 수 있습니다. 구멍의 크기로 봐서 macro알게보다는 헤어알게종류에 더 맞을 것 같습니다. 사이펀 원리를 활용해서 뜯으면 바로 빨려 들어간다는 것입니다.

When we first picked up the package for AquaMedic’s Algae Tweezers, we stared at it first in confusion and then in wonderment. No doubt countless numbers of reefers have long used some kind of cockamamie scheme for simultaneously removing Derbesia or Bryopsis from live rock while sucking it out with a siphon. Toothrbush zip-tied to the siphon hose, pinching the algae off with your hands or the end of the hose and we’ve even heard of drilling a hole in a large horse brush to insert the siphon hose for one particulalry large algae removal chore. Never in our in the most wishful part of our reefing hearts would we dream that someone would ever create a product to address this very specific and undesirable task. Not only did AquaMedic get the concept for this product right, the design and build of Algae Tweezers looks pretty robust: solid hand-sized plastic is more tong-sized than tweezer size, the large gripping end has a pleated surface to make sure the thinnest and slimiest algae can be grabbed, and the built-in tube leads right up to the grippy grips. The supplied hose is equally well chosen with the right diameter not to clog while thick clumps of algae are passing through and it’s silicone instead of vinyl so it can easily be pinched by hand for manual flow control. Like the dual purpose scraper squeegee earlier this week, the Algae Tweezers address the unique needs of reef aquarium power users and aquarium service technicians. We don’t know about you guys but we like it when companies develop products that address 2% of the overall aquarium market

일반 비닐이 아닌 실리콘 재질의 호스로 이루어 졌다고 합니다. 언뜻보면 유용할 것도 같습니다만 저라면 그냥 뜯을 만큼 손으로 뜯어버리고 물갈이 하면서 사이펀 쓸 것 같습니다. :)

Do you remember that Zeomatic 2 we showed you not to long ago? To refresh your memory it features a self cleaning system with both water and air cleaning. Plus, you won’t need an extra air pump as the reactor includes aquabee pumps that handle the job quite nicely. Now normally you would have to pay the retail for the Zeo Matic 2. Which for the 2.5 liter ($1,200) or 4.5 ($1,400) but until the product gets established in the market (say around 6 months or so), Fauna Marin has decided to reduce the price. For the smaller 2.5 liter model your price would be $699 and the larger (4.5 liter) your price would be $899. Not to shabby yes?

Fauna Marine사의 zeomatic2라는 제품입니다. 간단히 말해서 zeovit reactor의 경우 하루에 2번정도 15~20회정도 미디어를 흔들어 주어야 되는데 이런 불편함을 모터를 통해 매일 손을 대지 않도록 만들어진 것입니다. 아쿠아비모터가 사용되었으며 2.5리터, 4.5리터 버젼이 있다고 합니다. 가격을 40%정도 할인해서 판매한다고는 하나 굉장히 비싼 가격이라고 생각이 됩니다. 또한 동영상의 것은 제가 보기에는 조금 모터가 강해보이기도 합니다.
리프클럽에서도 최근들어 zeovit 리액터 공구와 더불어 자동화에 대한 고민이 많이 이루어지고 있습니다.

좋은 결과가 있어 싼 값에 많은 사람들이 zeovit reactor를 사용할 수 있기를 기대해 봅니다.

A new type of coral frag holder has been introduced in Europe. The new coral frag holder is made out of a mixture of crushed coral rubble and then positioned together to form a frag. Like most frag holders this is also harmless to your aquarium as it is made out of 98% coral rubble and 2% epoxy resin. It will not release phosphate and silicate while giving a very natural appearance to your reef aquarium versus traditional frag holders. These are about as natural as we have seen yet. You can pick up a pack of 12 of these in Europe for around 8 euro or $11.

새로운 타입의 Coral Frag을 위한 plug입니다. 기존의 것 보다 자연스러워 보이네요. 12개들이 한 세트인 것 같습니다.

Hobby multi box

The Hobby branded multi box has as the product name suggest multiple uses. However one of the biggest complaints we hear is how to thaw frozen food for your tank mates. Most of us use some sort of dish in reverse osmosis water and wait for it to thaw and then pour it into the tank. That might work well, but as many of us know, food is usually high in phosphates (fish need them to survive you know), so by dumping the thawed “juice” into the tank you are increasing your chances of having a phosphate spike. The Hobby multi box is what we like to call a professional thawing system. It has a fine mesh screen which allows you use whatever water source to thaw the food and then using the strainer system, keep the food in the box and all that left over juice out. These can be picked up for about $11.

Hobby라는 곳에서 만든 냉동 먹이를 녹이기 위한 기구입니다. 11달러나 하는군요. 영어를 간단히 번역해보자면 일반적으로 접시같은 곳에다가 RO물을 넣고 냉동먹이를 녹여서 물을 가능한 따라버리고 그다음 어항에 넣는데 그러다 보면 녹은 물이 그대로 유입되어 인산염등이 올라갈 확율이 높기 때문에 이런 기구를 사용하면 좋다. 뭐 그런겁니다. 여러분들은 어떻게 냉동먹이를 녹이십니까?
저는 아주 저렴하게 이런 것을 씁니다.

회사에서 지금 일하고 있는데 와이프한테서 전화가 왔습니다.

"지금 어항 주변이 물바다야~!!!"

별의별 생각이 들기 시작합니다. 건드린게 없는데 뭐지?

청소기를 밀고 있는데 주변이 물바다가 되서 전화를 했답니다.
집에 갈 수는 없고 침착하게 하나씩 확인해 봅니다.
섬프공간에 물이 있는지 물어봅니다. 섬프나 리턴배관에서 새는지 확인하려고요
"어 있어..."
"헉~"
"아크릴 통 속에 물 아직 있는데?"
"거긴 원래 있는거고 그 바닥엔 물이 있어?"
"이 바닥엔 물이 없는데..."
'다행이다..'
리턴쪽 배관에 물이 새는지 확인해보라고 합니다.
"거긴 괜찮아."

그럼 한군데밖에 없습니다.
"약수통에 물이 있나 볼래?"

"물이 차있는데...(어제 제가 물 넣었거든요) 어! 어딘지 알겠어~"

두근반세근반..

"약수통에서 새는거 같애"
"엥?"

"다시 전화할께"

3분이 흘렀습니다. 기분은 30분이 흐른것 같습니다...

"약수통 바닥에 금이 갔나봐 깨진거같에..."
"잉? 오래되긴 했어도 금갈정도는 아닌데...거기 있는 물 그러면 다 비워줘.."
"알았어.."

다용도실에 있는 정수기와 어항과의 거리가 너무 멀어서 직접 연결을 하지 못하고
(거실을 확장하니까 이점이 아주 안좋습니다..) 약수통에다가 받아서 사용을 했습니다.
매우 귀찮은 작업이고 보기에도 안좋지만 그나마 안전한 방법이긴 합니다.
하지만 고이는 시간이 오래되면 (그래봐야,길어야 이틀이지만) 곧바로 정수기물이 들어오는거보다야 안좋겠지요..

쓰는 도중에 전화가 왔습니다.
보충수통에서 호수연결을 위해 구멍뚫고 배관 연결한 부분이 1자로 깨졌답니다.

아무생각없이 청소기밀다가 먼지따로 공간에 물이 들어갔고 어항밑 거실바닥에 물이 들어갔을텐데
닦을 수 없어서 썩을것 같다고 합니다. 청소기 고장나면 하나 사줘야 한다고...
그 물 버리느라 허리도 아프다며...

더 좋은거 사준다고 했습니다.
