내가 좋아하는 어항 중 하나인 Leonardo의 어항관련 글을 보면서 (이전에 소개를 한 바 있다. 이번 새로운 어항을 다시 소개하려고 했는데 Leonardo의 어항상태가 안좋아지면서 한달정도 기다려달라고 해서 기다리고 있음) 그가 사용하고 있는 재밌는 물건이 보였다.  바로 요녀석.... Tropic Marin사의 Reef Actif입니다.

아래의 인용글은 Reef Actif의 관련 설명입니다.2가지 역할을 하게 되는데 하나는 흡착제로서 그리고 다른 하나는 박테리아를 위한 영양분으로 사용이 된다고 쓰여 잇습니다.  
Tropic Marin Reef Activ -for vitality and colour in corals and reef clams. Tropic Marin Reef Activ performs a unique dual function as an adsorber and bacterial nutrient in saltwater aquariums. In doing this it assumes a central function as the link between inorganic nutrients and the biological population in the saltwater aquarium. Tropic Marin Reef Activ is suspended in the aquarium water where it bonds with both nutrients and water contaminants making them available as nutrients to bacteria and other animals that feed on dissolved organic material in the saltwater.

These bonded nutrients make Tropic Marin Reef Activ even more valuable as a source of beneficial bacterial nutrition thus strongly promoting the reduction of water contaminants. Tropic Marin Reef Activ consists of long-chain molecules which can only be digested by specific organisms. This reduction is always gradual and insures that there is never any dangerous oxygen loss in the aquarium as can occur with many other types of bacterial nutrients.

Among the organisms that can utilize Reef Activ are the symbiotic bacteria which live in corals, sponges, tubeworms and many other filter feeding animals. The reduction in nutrients by Reef Activ operates so efficiently that corals and reef clams exhibit significantly improved vitality and display their brightest colours.

Add one measuring spoon once a week for 500 l aquarium water

아래의 인용은 Leonardo가 직접 사용해보고 적은 글입니다. Carbon source dosing에서와 마찬가지고 스키밍의 양이 증가하고 유리에 붙는 알게필름들이 사라지면서 코랄의 색이 강렬해 졌다고 합니다.

A few pages back I wrote about the test I started with a relatively new product from Tropic Marin, " Reef Actif". Basically it is a slow working carbon-source additive, based on marine bio-polymers.
After some weeks of testing, I can say I saw some significant changes. The algae film on the bottom of the tank has almost completely disappeared, and the glass also don't need as much cleaning as before. Also the water became more clear.
Skimmate production has almost doubled. Basically I have noticed all the symptoms of carbon dosage. Increased skimmer activity, less nutrients/algae, clear water etc.



The only difference with for example Vodka dosing was the darker and richer colors I noticed in my SPS, instead of increasing pale colors. This can be the result of the increase of bacterioplancton in the water feeding the corals, and/or the carbon source directly feeding the zooxanthellae. The same darkening is noticed when dosing large carbon containing molecules like sucrose. (table sugar)
Smaller molecules like Ethanol seem to have a lightening effect on SPS, and larger molecules like Vinegar, Sucrose and Reef-Actif a darkening effect.

My experiences with this product are positive and I will continue to use it, combined with additional carbon dosing and addition of bacteria by Prodibio (BioDigest).
I'm also looking what the long-term changes for my sponges will be.

실제로 어떤지 궁금해서 한번 사용해보기로 했습니다. 뚜껑을 열어보니 베이지색의 가루가 보입니다. 어쩌면 이것이 Zeozym(http://www.spsholic.com/entry/ZeoZym-and-Cyano)과 비슷한 것은 아닐까? 생각이 들기도 하네요

맛을 보면 꼭 달달할 것 같은데 차마 먹어보진 못하겠습니다. :) 500리터에 한숟가락이라고 하는데 일단 반숟가락정도부터 시험을 해보기 위해서 어항물에 반숟가락정도를 넣어보았습니다.

좀 저으면 물과 섞여서 이렇게됩니다.

일단 한번 어항에 넣어봤습니다. 미세한 알겡이들이 날라다니기 시작하는데요. 자세히 보니 SPS의 폴립들이 모두 나와 있는 것을 확인할 수 있습니다. 확실하게 SPS들이 반응을 보이고 있기는 합니다. 한통을 다 써보면서 느낌을 공유해보도록 하겠습니다. 반숟가락씩 일주일에 1~2번정도이면 되지 않을까 생각합니다.
